John Wichman has been able to see New Zealand through new eyes in his career as a coach driver for Pavlovich.

An auto diesel fitter by trade, he was working overseas for 40 years before returning to Aotearoa. After roles as a city driver, and training others, he’s now back on the road all over New Zealand. Being able see his country through the eyes of tourists is one of the best parts of the job.

“I feel a great sense of pride in showing New Zealand to everyone. But of course, it’s not my country, it belongs to everybody.”

“We’re representing the company, but we are also ambassadors for New Zealand.”

Travellers are wowed by the food and the kōrero.  “With our tours they’re getting real organic stories. The in-depth stuff you don’t read on Google.”

Credit goes, he says, to all the guides that Pavlovich works with around the country.

“You see how much effort they’re putting in.”  He says having visitors appreciate all we have here is of benefit to everybody.

Meeting people, sharing experiences – are all reasons John recommends joining us if you have an interest in driving as a career.  Although you need skills and experience, he agrees, before you move into luxury touring.

“Take whatever opportunity you can to upskill your driving and then aim for a company, like this, that values your worth.”
